A Lesson in Self Control

Stop swatting at flies.

James Rodgers

Self control happens when you don't swat at a fly. Their buzzing is quite annoying. But think for a second: how many times in your life have you actually hit a fly?

Very rarely, I presume.

The same with life. There are numerous flies buzzing around in your life and in your head. How many will you hit? How much extra effort does it cost us to swat at or correct things where the effort won't be matched by the reward?

So don't waste time swatting at flies. When the wind blows, they'll be gone, like much of our annoyances in life.

Breathe deep and blow. Wooooooooo.

James Rodgers · Letters from the Mountain Top

Most of what buzzes at you does not deserve your swing.

This is the heart of the maintenance we practice at Choose Faith. Not every annoyance needs a reaction. Not every voice in your head needs an answer. The Space Between exists so you can step away long enough to tell the difference between what deserves your energy and what the wind will carry off on its own.
